Direct descendants of Frederick Frobenius gathered for a reunion Sept. 4 and 5 at the Red Coach Inn in McPherson. Interested members toured the Marion and Claney cemeteries on Saturday. They also visited the original stone homestead southeast of Marion on the S.E. Richards farm.
Tom Grosse, owner and operator of Marion County Landfill, died Friday when a bridge he was working on near Sedgwick, collapsed. Grosse was operating a backhoe, removing part of the bridge deck when the deck collapsed about 11 a.m., reports stated.
Ballad singer Janet Post of Burns will be a featured performer Sept. 15 at the Farm Bureau Arena free stage.
Florence Cub Scouts won first place in the Florence Labor Day parade float competition. Theme for the float was "Everyone Needs Love — Even Den Mothers!" Florence Public Library and Florence Middle School placed second and third in the youth division.
Three students from Marion County have been named Summerfield and Watkins-Berger scholars at the University of Kansas. The are Ashley Loomis of Marion, Jeremy Johnson of Hillsboro, and Leyla Strotkamp of Peabody.
Laverne Bina of Marion recently was honored by Hoegemeyer Hybrids for 20 years of service as a dealer.
The Youngtown church supper was Sunday evening. The evening was hosted by the Hayens. Since it was the beginning of the school year, the evening was spent with each one telling where they started school and who their teacher had been.
