After a cloudy, brisk morning, the sun came out Saturday and smiled down on the 82nd annual Old Settlers' Day celebration.
An open house to showcase the completion of construction at St. Luke Living Center was held Sunday afternoon. Special guests were three sisters from the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, who operated the hospital before it was sold to the hospital district. Sisters Scholastica, Virginia (Clarita), and Marcelina all worked in St. Luke Hospital and said they were pleased with the many improvements.
Class 7 of the Aulne United Methodist Church had a "cream can" supper Sept 21 at the home of Ern Hett, honoring Ern's birthday. Others attending were Russ and Joyce Hett, Ron and Ruby Hett, Jess and Lila Richter, Nora Richter, Ellen Darrow, Jim Hett, Walt and Jackie Hett, Ed and Ruth McGinness, Wes Just, Charlie and Joan Haines, Joan Unruh, and Herman and Iva Unruh
Members of the Marion High School Class of 1943 had a great reunion over the Old Settlers' weekend celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Out of a class of 41 members, 11 are deceased. Of the surviving 30, 26 responded and attended all or part of the festivities.
Six-year-old Rebecca Richmond, daughter of Randy and Ramona Richmond of Marion, placed fourth in the national pedal pull championship Saturday in Omaha, Neb.
Two from Marion received top honors in the miniature horse show at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. They were showing miniature horses owned by Larry and Deana Olsen of Marion. Heidi Pope, eight years old, showed a one-year-old gelding. She received several ribbons in showmanship classes and halter and grand champion gelding award. Deana Olsen showed an eight-year-old stallion that took first place in both hunter and jumper. She also received placings in halter, obstacle, and several driving classes.
