A 425-foot cellular communications tower now under construction, less than two miles north of Marion on the west side of the Pilsen Road, will provide clear cellular service for the entire county and beyond.

Fourth graders from Marion Elementary School attended an all-day science trip Thursday at World Impact Ranch near Florence. "Who Lives Here" as the field trip was called, provided a number of hands-on experiences for students.

Most folks talked about the weather over this weekend. It changed Saturday and by morning was in the low 30s.

Bridal showers reported this week included one for Becky Swan, bride-elect of Tim Makovec, and another for Stacey Long, bride-elect of Christian Pederson. Hostesses at the Swan shower were Donita Turk, Dawn Makovec, and Katrina Griffin. The Long shower was hosted by Shirley Carlson, assisted by Cindy Reece, Linda Carlson, Tracey Carlson, and Rhonda Carlson. There also was a layette shower for Jami (Shirley) Harper of Hillsboro. Hostesses at this shower were Beverly Jirak, Shirley Burkholder, Tootsie Snelling, and Ruth Herbel.

Brian Pagenkopf and Meggan Silhan were named Centre High School homecoming king and queen Friday at the Cougar-White City game.

Twenty-seven of the 54 members of the Marion High School Class of 1939 were present Old Settlers' Day to celebrate the 55th anniversary of their graduation.

The public is invited to a celebration of the completion of the project to save the 1881 home of W.H. Morgan, first newspaper editor at Peabody.
