City of Marion commissioners learned that Indian artifacts have been discovered in the path of the proposed new sewer project that will serve the community. The Indian artifacts were discovered at the south edge of the project, near the Cottonwood River. It will require a full archaeological dig and study, but will not delay the project.

Dawn Spencer, a Marion High School graduate, recently completed a map of the Santa Fe Trail, now on display in Marion Historical Museum. The trail crossed through northern Marion County, and will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 1996. Trail ruts may still be found in Marion County.

Saturday dawned still and clear, a perfect day for Lincolnville's annual Octoberfest.

Twenty-nine players entered the Old Settlers' Day golf tournament at Marion Country Club the afternoon of Sept. 29. The team comprised of Mickey Lundy, Bill Lundy, Chris Costello and Don Bredemeier placed first with a score of 61.

Helen Reznicek, business education teacher at Marion High School, attended the convention of Kansas Business Education Association held Friday at the Airport Hilton in Wichita.

John Riddle, the last surviving combat veteran of Marion's M Company in World War I, died Thursday at Kansas City.

Terri Novak of Tampa has rejoined the staff of Presbyterian Manor of Mid-America, where she will be vice president of operations. For the past year she has served as a long-term care consultant. She and her husband, Kelly, live at Tampa with their sons, Chris and Nick.
