Marion native Carla Stovall will announce her candidacy for Kansas Attorney General at a rally Monday in Marion. Stovall, daughter of Carl and Juanita Stovall of Marion, will make the announcement at 5:30 p.m. in Stone City Café.
Becky Swan, a senior at Marion High School, has been selected as Student of the Month by the faculty. She is the daughter of Paul and Kathy Swan of Marion. Becky plans to attend Kansas Sate University and enter veterinary studies.
Students of Holy Family Parish in the fifth through eighth grades participated Sunday in a religious quiz contest. Winners were declared in two age groups. First place winners in the younger category were Colleen Belton, Albert Jirak, and Janie Rziha. First in the older category were David Rziha and Emily Belton.
Debbie Darrow, early childhood handicapped teacher with the Marion County Special Education Cooperative, has received the award of excellence as Kansas Special Educator of the Year. The award was granted Oct. 14 by the Kansas Federation of the Council for Exceptional Children.
The annual community Thanksgiving dinner will be held Nov. 25 at Marion Elementary School.
Three groups that helped with the Marion baseball field project recently received plaques of appreciation from Mayor Gerry Harris. Those honored were Jerry Kline and Bill Gahan of Marion-Marietta Aggregates, Doug Steadrey and Richard Cox of Flint Hills RC&D, and Justin Groening, Jared Herzet, and Marion Meyer of Marion High School FFA.
