A tornado tore through the Pilsen area Oct. 8 and destroyed property on several farms.
A picture on the front page shows an old house being torn down Monday at the future site of a Tampa State Bank branch office. The bank will locate at the corner of Freeborn and Main streets. Jost Construction will build the bank which should open early in 1998.
Marion native Dale Heidebrecht is one of the featured performers in "Forever Plaid" now playing at the Crown Uptown dinner theater in Wichita. Maria Voelker has been named student of the month by the Marion High School faculty. The junior is the daughter of Louis and Anna Voelker of Florence.
Marion County Economic Development Council is hosting a familiarization tour Oct. 22. The tour will visit the southern portion of the county. A previous tour visited the northern portion.
The 45th wedding anniversary of Edmund and Mary Lou Kroupa was celebrated Saturday when their family gathered in honor of the event. The group attended Mass together at Holy Family Church in Marion, had dinner at Kingfisher's In, then had a reception at the Kroupa home.
Local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts collected hundreds of bags of canned and boxed goods on Saturday for the Marion County food bank.
