Equipment from All Rail came through Marion this past week, removing the rails and ties from a spur which was closed several years ago. City crews traveled behind the workers, filling in the streets where the rails were removed. It took about three days for the company to remove the portion of the track within Marion city limits.
Just in time for Halloween, more than 800 big orange pumpkins, trucked to Marion from New Mexico, are a colorful sight alongside the Christian church on Elm Street. They are a fund-raising project of JAM (Jesus and Me) to benefit the youth group of the church. Pumpkins will be delivered by members of the group, for a free-will cash contribution.
Jean Case presented the program at the Oct. 7th meeting of Neo-Century Club, telling of experiences she and her husband, Alex, have encountered in their quest for family history.

Twentieth Century Club met Oct. 7 at Twin Feathers Emu Farm, Ramona. Members toured the farm, then returned to the home of Marissa Makovec for a fried chicken dinner provided by hostesses, Randee Loomis, Evelyn Anderson, Joyce Patterson, and Rosie Plenert.
Kathleen Kelly, former Foods Editor for The Wichita Eagle, presented a delightful program on hats at the Oct. 7 meeting of Chapter DB, PEO.
Shawn Markley of Marion and Lisa Zogelman of Florence were named Marion High School homecoming king and queen Friday during halftime ceremonies of the varsity football game against Remington.
Staff Sgt. Jay Sandwell, son of Ken and Marge Sandwell of Marion, was a member of an Air Force team which took first place in a recent combat readiness competition. Sandwell is a member of Tinker AFB 3rd Combat Communication Group. It won the overall award for sustained services.
Eleven Marion High School students attended a Business Career Day Oct. 9 at Emporia State University. They were: Pam Cyr, Molly Hanes, Stacie Hasenbank, Stephanie Koop, Jenny Maggard, Crystal Matz, Heather Matz, Elsie Ryan, Jessica Schafers, Carolyn Weber, and Clark Wildin.
