Heavy run-off in 1993 chewed off a portion of the flood control levee surrounding the city of Marion. Army Corps of Engineers crews have been at work this past week repairing the damage to the dike just west of Marion. The project is nearing completion.

A luncheon on Thursday at Al's Café in Lost Springs honored the retirement of Jack Kerbs who will retire Nov. 17 after being employed for 43 years by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Ethan Good, a junior at Marion High School, has been chosen student of the month. He is the son of Joann and Bob Good of rural Marion.

Among students whose names appear in the annual edition of The National Dean's List are the following from Marion: Sarah Blount, Jennifer Hanson, Amanda Janzen, and Shannon Stewart, all of Emporia State University; John Moore of Pittsburg State University; and Elvira Helmer and Sharon Kelsey of Butler County Community College.

Members of the MHS class of 1959 enjoying their 35th year reunion over Old Settlers' weekend were Lane Broadstreet, Garry Vogel, Keith Conyers, Bill Good, Jay Pankratz, Earl Winter, Ted Leutschaft, Mick Summervill, Donna (Kelsey) Hayen, Arlene (Hett) Sittner, Sonja (Sanders) Vogel, Patsy (Slusser) Enright, Beverly (Bredemeier) Jirak, Coleen (Allen) Jordan, Wanda (Johnston) Waring, Marie (Blankley) Schissler, Jerry Kline, Bob Bass, Kenneth Meisinger, Bonnie (Lucas) Schmidt, Sharon (Propp) Englebright, Ed Siebert, Gary Helmer, Karon (Highsmith) Hess, Kenneth Bowers, and Shirley (Lucas) Burkholder.
