Announcement was made this week that the Owl Car Café in downtown Marion will be closed after Friday. David and Tena Waner, who have operated the business for the past 18 months, said business had been good but they were faced by an extreme shortage of qualified help.
Rochelle Mueller, daughter of Earl and Eloise Mueller of Marion, has been named Gaming Audit Manager at the new Harrah's facility in New Orleans, La. Previously she had served as lead Auditor of Gaming Income Control for Harrah's Resort and Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
Janet Longhofer, daughter of Dorothy Varenhorst and the late Wayne Varenhorst, and language instructor at Marion High School, has been named Teacher of the Month. Janet also is actively involved with high school students as play director, forensics coach, and dance team sponsor.
Camping, hiking, and perhaps even whitewater rafting are activities the new Boy Scout troop in Marion most likely will be involved in. They recently received a good start on equipment when Coleman Company presented them with a number of necessary items. Members of the troop are Jack and Jesse Branson, Josh Bryant, Kirk Buckner, Andy Crofoot, Jim Helmer, Chris Holub, Jeremy Kinning, and Roger Weatherbee Jr.
For the second consecutive year, Marion High School runner Pam Kruse took second in the Class 3A girls' state championship cross country meet Saturday in Wamego. This was the fourth straight appearance for both Kruse and Nick Voelker, who finished 26th.
