Chairman Jerry Cady said the numbers were down but everything seemed to go well Monday during the Marion Chamber of Commerce sponsored Farm-City Appreciation Week annual steak feed. Only 350 steaks were served, which is about 50 less than usual.

The annual Christmas holiday community lighting service will be held Friday in Central Park. The public is encouraged to attend, joining in the traditional ceremony of Christmas cheer.

The Marion High School Warriors football team was defeated 28-6 Saturday at the championship playoff by the powerful Wichita Collegiate Spartans.

Dorothy Conyers retired Thursday after 24 years of dedicated service in the Marion SRS office.

Mrs. William J. Nelson entertained friends recently at a unique party celebrating the 60th birthday of her grand piano.

On Nov. 17, Jack Kerbs was presented with a retirement pin by Curtis Maag, Kansas Department of Transportation area superintendent. Kerbs began his employment with KDOT in April 1951 in the Durham area as a highway maintenance worker. In 1970, he was promoted to sub area supervisor which moved him to Marion. Kerbs held this position until his retirement.

Marion High School seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher were honored Thursday night at the Marion County Academic Awards program held at Tabor College, Hillsboro. Honorees were Kimberly Kreutziger, Laura Hanes, Katrina Hancock, Heather Pope, Jodi Smith, Kay Summervill, Bradley Druse and Rebecca Collett.
