Tampa farmer/rancher David Mueller has filed as a Republican candidate for the 70th District House of Representatives seat. The seat is currently held by 14-year veteran Duane Goossen, who will retire at the end of this legislative session.

Florence residents have scheduled a town meeting for 3 p.m. Jan. 21 in the Florentine Center to discuss the most recent building proposals for Marion USD 408. The proposal calls for building a middle school next to Marion High School, and leasing the existing middle school in Florence to Marion County Special Education Cooperative for offices and classrooms.

Marion baseball director David Branson reported to Marion City Commission that sign-up for the summer season is underway and prospects are "encouraging."

Brendan Kraus, a freshman at Pittsburg State University, has been listed on the fall semester honor roll. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Kraus of Marion, he is majoring in biology.

David and Nina Carr and Tracy hosted a party Sunday afternoon celebrating the first birthday of Cody Allen Carr.

It was announced during the Centre Unified School District Board of Education meeting Monday night that the family of Albert and Verna Riffel had chosen Centre High School as recipient of the athletic memorial fund established in their name.

Leona Loney accompanied Gene and Vernie Konecny to Hillsboro Sunday where they had dinner. They drove on to McPherson to attend the movie, "Grumpier Old Men."

Centre High School winter homecoming candidates are Michelle Combs, Ashley Howard, Michelle Kahns, and Melissa Vinduska; and Nick Evancho, Daniel Stuchlik, Shane Svitak, and Kelly Wonser. Ceremonies are set for 6:15 p.m. Friday in the high school gym.
