Marion County Commissioners spent two hours Nov. 1 attending a public meeting on a proposed landfill expansion and also reviewed five applications from companies wishing to administer the county's grant to make the courthouse fully accessible.

The third annual Turkey Daze celebration is scheduled for Saturday in downtown Marion. It is sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and Marion/Florence REC.

The annual Chat 'n' Dine Club chili and soup dinner and arts and crafts festival will be held Saturday at Marion County Lake hall.

Wedding write-ups in this week's issue included those of Joyce Ann Trotnic and Dennis Bernard Kraus, Sept. 16; and Diane Renee Suderman and Mike Bruce Meisinger, Aug. 19.

Eric Carlson is the student of the week at Centre Junior High School. He is the son of Ronnie and Susan Carlson of Lincolnville.

Marion Chamber of Commerce president Jerry Cady is pictured as he cut the ribbon Friday at Straub International in Marion. Straub held an inventory reduction auction and free pancake and sausage feed in conjunction with the formal grand opening.

Marion County Historical Society will meet Nov. 14 at Al's Café in Lost Springs for lunch at noon, followed by a short information meeting and a Santa Fe Trail car caravan beginning at Diamond Springs and ending at Lost Springs.

Richard A. "Dick" Lundgren, former Marion City Clerk and owner/operator of the Elgin Hotel for 10 years, died Nov. 1 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka.
