Gov. Bill Graves is to be the guest speaker at the Jan. 26 Marion Chamber of Commerce annual meeting. The meeting will be held in Our Savior Lutheran Church parish hall in Marion.

Steel frames begin to show the outline of Marion Middle School. The project continues to move forward despite wet weather and delayed delivery of steel. The project should be completed next fall. Seventh and eighth grades will attend class in the new school. The current middle school in Florence will be leased as office space to Marion County Special Education Cooperative.

Brandon Meierhoff, son of Chris and Kathy Meierhoff of Marion, won a Huffy bicycle at Marion True Value Hardware Dec. 22. Children submitted 16 entries in the contest. The winner was chosen in a random drawing of all entries.

Christine Laue, a native of Marion, will move in January from the staff of the Caller-Times in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the staff of the World-Herald in Omaha, Neb. The move represents a significant professional advancement. She is the daughter of Betty and Harvey Sanders of Marion.

The 65th wedding anniversary of Orvis and Thelma O'Dell was celebrated Dec. 21 at a family reception at the home of their daughter, D'Elda Nuessen, in El Dorado.

Rita Stuchlik of Lost Springs has been initiated into the Kansas State University chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu. The daughter of Alex and Jean Stuchlik, she is a senior in the KSU College of Human Ecology majoring in communication sciences and disorders.

Army Private Laramie Siebert has graduated from the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga., where he received basic training as well as advanced infantry training. He is the son of John Siebert of rural Florence and Susan Holterman of rural Long Island.
