The public is encouraged to attend a town hall type meeting at which strategic planning for Marion County will be the main topic of discussion. Sponsored by Marion County Economic Development Council, the meeting will be held Feb. 21, in Hillsboro.

Janice Waner of rural Florence and Leona Hajek of rural Lost Springs have a lot in common. Besides being sisters, both are members of their respective school boards and both serve on the board of Marion County Special Education Cooperative.

Marion City Commission hired Diane Hett Monday to serve as community facilitator. She will begin work Feb. 19.

The Marion High School Scholar's Bowl team of Suzanne Blount, Catherine Blount, Nathan Collett, and Chris Bowers advanced to quarterfinals in the Chase County Tournament. They posted a 3-2 record in pool play, but lost 50-60 on a tie-breaker contest in the quarterfinals.

Kenneth Klein of Tampa has received an award for 30 years of service to Kansas Department of Transportation.

Florence Chamber of Commerce honored several businesses Thursday at their regular meeting. Honored were Sharon Williams of Third Street Storage, Heather Stauffer of Carousel Day Care, Carolyn Savage of Prairie Hills Preschool, and Roger and Alice Johnson of PBK Construction.

Don Hodson, M.D., of Marion has been nominated for the 1996 Kansas Family Physician of the Year award. The award is based on outstanding service to patients and community, and devotion to family practice.
