The latest, albeit temporary, tourist attraction in Burns is a huge donut constructed as part for "Mars Attacks!" For security purposes, Warner Brothers film company is discouraging visitors at the site. It is clearly visible from U.S.-77. There are no plans to construct a gigantic cup of coffee.
Proposals should be mailed out this week for bids to make extensive improvements to Marion County Courthouse, the county commission learned Monday during the regular weekly meeting.

The home of John Siebert, located on the X-Diamond Ranch 2.5 miles north of Florence on the quarry road, was destroyed by fire April 3. The only items rescued were a few pictures and one easy chair. Included in the loss was his 1994 Corvette sports car with only 15,000 miles on it. The fire started in a fuse box in the attached garage where the Corvette was parked.
Justene Raleigh of Marion was the grand prize winner for the Marion Chamber of Commerce Egg-Stra Give-a-Way. She received $115 in gift certificates good at any chamber member business.
