Al and Verna Riffel of Lincolnville died Monday in a tragic two-vehicle accident at the U.S.-50/77 junction. The intersection has been the scene of numerous accidents over the years, and within the past year it had been extensively reconstructed in an attempt to solve the problem.
The ever-popular lip-synch contest will be repeated Saturday as one of the events of Marion's annual Summerfest program. There is no admission charge.
Albert Steele took 12 of his championship rabbits to Springfield, Neb., during the Memorial Day weekend and returned with best opposite honors for his Champagne D'Argent rabbit, Silver Silva. Seven of his rabbits earned honors at the show.
The 59th anniversary of the graduation of the Class of 1936 of Burns High School was celebrated May 27 at the Burns Café and Bakery. Of the 27 graduates, there were 12 who attend the reunion.
Richard and Deborah Cook of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Tammy, to William Bradford, son of Dave and Jolene Bradford of Herington. The couple plan to be married July 29 at Marion Christian Church.
Five Marion residents completed the 13.1 mile Trinity Hospital Hill Half Marathon on Sunday in Kansas City. The group included Grant and Deanna Thierolf, Mike Moran, Kris Burkholder and Jim Darrow. They had trained since the beginning of February for the big race. While none of them took home the $4,000 prize, Thierolf said they all were happy just to complete the course.
