Voters in Marion Unified School District, Tuesday, approved raising funds through a local option budget increase by a vote of 430-388. But a vote to acquire a new junior high building through a lease-purchase agreement tied 411-411.

Marion County Courthouse courtroom is closed for at least two months for extensive renovations. Spectator chairs have been removed, and the white paint on the jury box, rail, and judge's bench has been stripped away, revealing the original oak. Offices will be built in the rear of the existing courtroom for court services staff. The front portion will receive new paint, ceiling, and lights. Until work is completed court is held in the jury room, a cramped but serviceable option for court staff.

The 50th wedding anniversary of Willard and Earlene Hague will be celebrated July 6 at a reception at Valley United Methodist Church.

Births announced in this issue included a son, Jordan Lee, born to John and Dr. Jessica Laurin of Marion; a daughter, Mickayla Logan, whose parents are David and Dawn Kaiser of Lincolnville; daughter, Kaelyn Nicole, born to Grant and Deanna Thierolf of Marion; and a son, Travis Michael, born to Cindy Brown of Florence.

Andrea Wegerer, daughter of Judy and Lou Wegerer of Marion, has returned from Level II of the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, Hutchinson.

More than 300 people attended the Santa Fe Trail celebration June 18 near the site of the Cottonwood River Crossing west of Durham. The program was the 16th in a series of 42 being held at campsites along the historic trail.

Approximately 50 members and friends of the Marion Christian Church gathered Sunday evening for a basket picnic dinner at the World Impact Ranch between Florence and Cedar Point. A tour was taken of the facilities, cabins, swimming pool, tennis court, lodges, and grounds.
