The first five loads of wheat arrived at the elevator in Marion June 21. Early weights were 48 pounds per bushel but have gone up to 61 pounds with the average weight being 60 pounds. The moisture percentages range from 11 to 20. The Marion elevator reported the wheat price was $4.25, Monday, a marked increase.
A Tampa FFA student recently went to Washington, D.C., to attend a leadership conference. Emily Belton, daughter of Edward and Gwen Belton, attended the conference to help FFA members improve their leadership skills and better understand their roles as community leaders.
Nathan Smith, Shelter Insurance Company agent in Pittsburg, formerly of Marion, has been honored for being among the company's top agents, based on overall agency operations. Smith received a plaque during the firm's recent Conference of Champions.
The Aulne community will again hold its annual Independence Day holiday celebration at the Aulne United Methodist Church on Sunday from 4 p.m. to a fireworks finale at 9:30 p.m.
Twelve students from Marion County are listed on the 1995 spring honor rolls at the University of Kansas. Marion students are Hannah Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bennett; Stephanie McLain, daughter of Carol Burkholder and Larry Burkholder; and Ashley Loomis, daughter of Larry and Randee Loomis.
The Rev. John Goering is the new minister at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Goering spent 28 years as a teacher before entering the ministry.
