Morgan Jones, a senior at Centre High School, is participating in work-study opportunities at three Marion businesses this semester. She will work weekday afternoons at St. Luke Hospital, Central National Bank, and the Marion County Record.
Marion County Pilots Association has presented two scholarships for free flight instruction to winners in a drawing held during the county fair. One hour of free flight instruction has been awarded, each, to Mike Haniger and Pam Riesen, both of Hillsboro.
Marion Unified School District has six new teachers this year, five in Marion Elementary School, and one in Florence Middle School. Those who will teach at MES are Lynette Cross, second grade; Trish Bandre, fifth grade; and Marilyn Bartel, Lisa Edwards, and Jennifer Schroeder, all special education teachers. Gary Stuchlik will teach computers and math at Florence Middle School. Jacquelyn Creamer is a new maintenance employee at MES.
Heartland Wireless has announced the winners of door prizes awarded during the firm's open house in Marion. Peggy Blackman of Marion was awarded a night's stay for two at Country Dreams bed and breakfast. Ralph Popp was awarded a free portrait sitting at Owens Photography, Lincolnville. Lori Tajchman and Chris McFadden, both of Marion, received T-shirts.
Virginia Downing, Marion, entered a 15" long and 9" around burpless cucumber in this week's Produce Derby. She bought the seed at Marion True Value Hardware.
Members of the 1996 Leadership Marion County class graduated Monday night at a program held in the community room of Emprise Bank, Hillsboro. Members of the class were Kelly Linnens, Thomas Leihy, Julie Linnens, Lola Unruh, Glen Suppes, Glendene Flaming, Doug Svitak, Jeffrey Breit and Wendy Leith.
Five new full-time faculty members have joined the Centre staff for the 1996-1997 year. They include Brent Cain, first grade; Staci Hansen, Title I instructor for grades 5-8; Andy Hansen, industrial arts and technical education; Justin Redeker, science; and Kristina Hamilton, English (grades 7-9) and speech.
