Warren Hinrichs of Spokane, Wash., was in Marion last week to re-paint poles in front of the county courthouse and post office. He scrapes rust spots, replaces ropes, and hand brushes poles with aluminum paint. The job is repeated every three years. Hinrichs travels the entire nation and says he gets a "good view of the country" in his work.

Marion County Commission agreed Friday to enter negotiations with KC Development of Marion to provide transfer station services for county residents and businesses. In addition, Marion County will consider an inter-local agreement with Harvey County to accept trash from haulers not going to the KC Development station in Marion.

A two-month guest artist show at the Berger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg is featuring watercolors and prints, works of Wayne Conyers of McPherson, son of Harold and Vivian Conyers of Marion.

Lavonne and Bud Hannaford and Jean and Alex Case have recently returned after spending three weeks touring on their own and also attending an Elderhostel study course in the United Kingdom.

District 14 of the Women's Christian Temperance Union held its convention Aug. 22 at Carriage Manor in Florence.

Several Marion High School graduates are members of the 1996 Emporia State University football team. They include redshirt freshman Aaron Reiswig, wide receiver; and freshmen Bill Griffith, Chuck Maggard, and Jason Wheeler. Wheeler is projected as a probable starter in the opening game Saturday.

The Marionettes camped Aug. 23-25 on the island at Richey Cove, Council Grove Reservoir. Marionettes attending were Loren and Mildred Cox of Newton, Lela Heacock of Wichita, Lewis and Mary Riggs of Florence, and Harold and Virginia Bowers and LeRoy and Lou Roberts of Marion.

Marion High School Swing Singers are taking orders for bierocks. They may be picked up at the Swing Singers booth Monday in Florence during the Labor Day celebration, or by making other arrangements.
