With the theme of Old Settlers' Day parade based on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II parade chairman Casey Case said three Marion countians who were prisoners of war will be recognized. They are Leo Scharenberg of Florence, Gene Obee of Burns, and Louis Vinduska of Pilsen. They will be riding at the head of the parade in a mint condition 1976 Cadillac El Dorado owned by Harlow and Edith Warneke.
Marion High School homecoming king and queen candidates are Bill Griffith, Jamie Minier, Chris Darrow, Rachel Janzen, Jodi Thomas and Amanda May. Homecoming ceremonies are set for Friday at half-time of the varsity game between Marion and Herington.
Clint Seibel of Littleton, Colo., will return to Tabor College as director of annual fund and church relations. He previously served Tabor as director of admissions and at one time worked in his family real estate business in Hillsboro.
Centre homecoming ceremonies will be Friday before the varsity football game against Hope. Queen candidates are Jenny Beausoleil, Michelle Combs, Michelle Kahns, and Melissa Vinduska. King candidates are Daniel Stuchlik, Shane Svitak, Kelly Steiner, and Kelly Wonser.
A grateful group of friends gathered Sunday evening at Marion Presbyterian Church to say both "good bye and thank you" to Rev. Bill Nelsen and his wife Marge. The couple moved to Marion 19 years ago, coming from Coffeyville, and now are moving to McPherson for the rest of their retirement.
