17-mile stretch of K-150 still closed for construction years ago

Seventeen miles of K-150, from its junction east of Marion with U.S.-77 to U.S.-50, remain closed to use by the general public.

The contractor, Duit Construction, Wichita, has until Aug. 29 to complete the project. Brice Goebel, Kansas Department of Transportation engineer at the Marion KDOT office, said the rebuilding of the pavement, including installation of the concrete, is now complete, but other work remains to be done.

Signs, shoulders, guard rails, and striping are some of the items yet to be taken care of, Goebel said.

"The road IS still closed, and the general public is not supposed to be driving on it," he emphasized. "If you're going to Emporia, don't use that road. If you have an accident, your car insurance will be no good as far as covering it."

People who live just off the road may use it, but that kind of "local traffic" is all that's allowed currently.
