Surprise! When no one was expecting it, least of all the doctors, a first baby of 1978 was delivered at St. Luke Hospital. Dr. T.C. Ensey performed the delivery Monday of little Carrie Ellen Koehn. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Newland Koehn of McPherson and the family was traveling through Marion toward McPherson after the New Year holiday when Mrs. Koehn went into labor.

Ted Hanschu of Marion is the first place winner in this year's recently concluded Marion County Record holiday season subscription contest. Hanschu's first prize is a brand new Victor electronic calculator. Other winners were Mrs. John Spinden of Chase County, and Mrs. Cecil Medley of rural Tampa.

The young people of the Strassburg church were guests of Pastor and Mrs. Les Buenning and Brice Tuesday evening for a Christmas gathering. Those present were Loren and Doug Fisher, Delayne Herbel, Barry and Brad Seifert, Debra Kreutziger, Steve Wilkins, Janet, Daryl, and Carol Ehrlich, Marilyn Hett, Gary Evans, Mark and Don Heiser, and Larry and Mary Lou Heiser.

Mrs. Lawrence Winkley invited some of Jerry's friends one evening the past week to help him celebrate his 18th birthday. Those present were Becky Suderman, Lola Suderman, Ben Just, Nancy and Anita Hiebert, John and Grace Seibel, Ronda Suderman, David Suderman, Larry McGillivary, Rick Shale, and Nancy Just.

Tech. Sgt. Bob Klose, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klose of Marion, has graduated from the USAF Tactical Air Command Non-Commissioned Officer Academy at Bergstrom AFB near Austin, Texas. He is a photo processing technician at Shaw AFB, S.C., and a 1962 graduate of Marion High School.
