Mr. and Mrs. August Helmer served as hosts Sunday at the Helmer Christmas dinner in the recreation hall of the Marion County Park and Lake.

Pvt. E-2 Terry Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith of Marion, has completed the Army basic training course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and is home on Christmas leave. He will report Jan. 2 to Presidio of Monterrey, Calif., to attend a special language school for 36 weeks. He graduated from Marion High School last spring.

Marriages reported in this week's issue include those of Kay Henning and James Havlik, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Havlik of Kanopolis, who were married Nov. 27 at Hutchinson; Mary Elizabeth Mestan, daughter of Judge Albert Mestan and Anne White Mestan, El Paso, Texas, and Gary David Pearman, also married Nov. 27, at Fort Bliss, Texas; and Sherryl Lueker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Lueker, Lincolnville, and Martin Reiter, who were married Nov. 24 at Richmond.

HA David Blanding, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Blanding of Wichita, and a 1976 graduate of Marion High School, has completed recruit training in the Navy at San Diego, Calif., and recently was home on leave. He is a hospital corpsman, rank E-2, at the Naval Health and Science Center, San Diego.

Teresa Case, bride-elect of Joe Nielsen, was honored Dec. 5 at the home of Mrs. Roger Hannaford. Miss Case was presented with place settings of her pewter tableware. Co-hostesses for the party were Mrs. Edward Colburn, Mrs. Gerry Harris, Mrs. Earl Wood, and Mrs. Keith Conyers.
