A popular winter sport for those with some endurance is ice fishing. More than 50 people braved a cold, but sunny, day Sunday to try their luck north of Durham Cove at Marion Reservoir.
The City of Marion signed a contract Monday afternoon with Bob Kelly of Kelly Construction for the construction of the "head end" building for the Marion cable television system.
Double ring marriage vows were exchanged by Beatrice McKibbin and Forrest L. Kelsey at 2 p.m. Jan. 3 in Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Claire Lynn Meredith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fruechting, has been hired as a programmer for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Okla. Meredith graduated from Emporia State University in December.
Kay Blackman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Blackman, was crowned Queen of Courts Friday night between games in Marion Gymnasium. Her attendants were Paula Vinduska and Barbara Costello.
Melissa Krispense, fifth grader at Marion Elementary School, won the school spelling bee Friday afternoon in the seventh round of competition. Jeff Conyers, sixth grader, was runner-up. Both will prepare for the county spelling bee in the spring.
Tim Jordan, Danny Annis, and Jeff Herzet won first, second, and third places Jan. 16 at the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Judges choices for the best car design were Chris Meierhoff, first, and Devin Kelsey, second. Boys' choices were Mike Bina, first, and Dale Heidebrecht, second.
Mud Creek Company is busy rehearsing for the upcoming Marion Community Arts Council dinner theater to be held Feb. 18. Parts will be played by Janet Bryant, Thelma Werth, Mary Longhofer, Rev. Paul Morris, Shirley Jo Hett, Ed Gilham, John Long, Jo Ellen McPheeters, and Dave Stroud.
