Bitter cold swept across the area Thursday night and, by the time the temperatures finished falling, thermometers registered a flat 11 degrees below zero. The snow that fell on Saturday fell silently with no wind to disturb the fluffy flakes and by Sunday morning there was about three inches of the white stuff on the ground.
Herb Wullschleger, who lives at Marion County Lake, was the first place winner in the annual Marion County Record subscription contest just ended. His prize was a Victor printing calculator valued at $149.50. Mrs. Wayne Annis won the second prize, an attractive clutch purse with built-in Rockwell calculator valued at $40. Third through 10th prizes went to A.R. Gantz, Marion; Ernest Siebert, Hillsboro; Irene Orpin, Florence; Wesley Madison, Denver, Colo.; Dale Smith, Marion; G.R. Spain, Lincolnville; Paul Bezdek, Lost Springs; and Mrs. Cecil Medley, Tampa.
Aaron, Amy, and Andy Hett hosted an ice skating party on New Year's Day with the children enjoying a football game on ice. Invited guests were Kim Hett, Robbie Hett, Dirk Francis, Greg Boyle, Devin Francis, Mitch Carlson, Jamie Shirley, Jan Nuss, Lisa Wilson, Elaine Nuss, Kim and Nancy Kline, Melissa Robinson, JoElla Smith, Cinde Miesse, and Cindy Heerey. After the game, the tired group of kids went to the Hett home for hot chocolate and donuts.
The Rosse B. Case home at 802 Denver, Marion, was the setting for the Dec. 18 wedding of the Cases' daughter, Teresa Jane, to Joseph Allen Nielsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.V. Nielsen, Shawnee.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rowe and David, Mr. and Mrs. Jon Thole, Melissa, Jill, and Jennifer, and Mr. and Mrs. James Socolofsky, Denise and Debra were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thole Wednesday evening at the Ramada Inn in Newton in honor of the wedding anniversaries of the Socolofskys and the Jon Tholes.
