Marion County officials took their oath of office at noon Monday, sworn in by County Clerk Barbara Farley. The officers were Ed Broz and Elmer "Buss" Uphoff, commissioners, County Attorney John Johnson, Magistrate Judge Henry Loveless, Register of Deeds Alma Jean Wiebe, Court Clerk Geraldine Seibel, and Sheriff June Jost.

Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer Post 6958, Veterans of Foreign Wars, is in the process of building an all-steel and all new post home on Santa Fe Street in Marion. Volunteer workmen are busy daily, putting up partitions and paneling inside the new building. Shown in a photo in this issue are workers Harry Klose, Ron Ollenberger, John Britain, John Markham, and Stanley Anderson.

Fourteen miniature souped-up race cars competed at the Legion building Monday night in a Cub Scout-Webelo Pine Box Derby. First place went to Chris Meierhoff, second to Tim Jordan, and third to Monte Dalke.

Janet Ehrlich, Gregory Vinduska, and Susan Vinduska, all of Marion, and Rita Harder of Cottonwood Falls, were named to the dean's list for the fall term at Bethany College, Lindsborg.

Paula Berry entertained with a party at her home Jan. 8 in celebration of the fifth birthday of her son, Chris. Guests invited for the afternoon were Jason Bernhardt, Amy Raleigh, Charles Smithhart, Eric Kannady, Kellie Hajek, and Stephanie Burkholder.

Helen Jackson, daughter of Max Jackson of Sedona, Ariz., and Pat Jackson of Marion, will perform in "The Magic Flute," an opera by Mozart. The opera is being presented by the Oklahoma City University School of Music and Performing Arts.

Terri Louise Robinson, a senior at Marion High School, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Robinson of Florence, has enlisted in the Delayed Enlistment Program (DEP) of the United States Air Force.
