Mother Nature provided the area with a blanket of snow over the weekend which in turn caused roads and highways to be hazardous. The result was a shortage of mail service and this edition of the Record reflects those facts, being smaller than usual.

Roger Foote, Peabody High School's star quarterback, signed a letter of intent Thursday for the Big Eight Conference. The announcement was made Friday by University of Kansas head football coach Bud Moore.

Marine Private Kevin D. Steinborn, son of Frances Buxman of rural Ramona, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. Steinborn joined the Marine Corps in October 1977.

Art work by nine Marion High School students is on display now at the Sears Catalog Store. Mediums include pencil, pen, watercolor, and print. There is a dotted ink design by William Kroupa, a vivid watercolor by Doug Heerey, a pencil portrait by John Slifer, a black and white pencil scene by Theresa Kroupa, and a print by Jeff Griffith. Other artists whose work is displayed are Miriam Priest, Doug McElhiney, Becky Vinduska, and Kelly Bartlett.

A "come and go" miscellaneous bridal shower was held Feb. 11 in the fellowship hall of Eastmoor United Methodist Church honoring Crystal Hein, bride-elect of Rick Hermreck. Hostesses were Mrs. Dean Batt, Mrs. Cranford Ensey, Mrs. A.J. Coe, Mrs. Harold Keazer, Mrs. Ed Hein, and Mrs. Gerald Harp.

Free pancakes and sausage will be served from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Goodyear Farm Tire Center on Stadium Road.

Krause's Nursery and Garden Center and Carlin's Flowers, both of Council Grove, soon will open additional facilities in Herington. The nursery is operated by Gary Krause, former Marion County weed supervisor, and his brother Dennis.
