Fall harvest is underway . Elmer Leppke is pictured as he cuts his feed crop that grew to over eight feet in height during late summer and early fall. The yield in the field five miles south of Marion was exceptional.

Bown Corby children of kindergarten through second grade age, observed a partial eclipse of the sun Wednesday afternoon under the supervision of their teachers and Bob Good, custodian, who constructed a cardboard box method of viewing the eclipse.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Ronning, Overland Park, announce the engagement of their daughter Lucia Lee to Douglas Lynn Keazer, Peoria Heights, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Keazer, Marion. Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village is the setting for their Jan. 1 wedding.

Marion High School girls volleyball team won a consolation trophy at the invitational tournament at Burrton. Team members are Kathy Sandwell, Linda Williams, Lori Hett, Sherri Kelly, Gail White, Karen White, Cindee Miesse, Kim Hett, Ann Bryant, Sandra Bridges, Molly Ferrell, Lori Harris, Pat Fruechting, and Bev Bezdek. The team is coached by Pat Jackson with Leroy Burton as assistant. Lisa Wilson is their manager.

Bud Pierce, finance commissioner for 12 years, received a 25-year diamond studded service pin from Mayor Peggy Blackman. Pierce also served as a member of the Marion Fire Department.

Marine Lieutenant Colonel Richard H. Schwartz, recently was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He was cited for outstanding performance of duty from August 1975 to July 1977 while serving as Supply Branch coordinator in the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics with the Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group in Korea.
