A number of dignitaries will be visiting Marion on Friday to help community members celebrate their PRIDE Pacemaker Award. In addition to city officials and PRIDE chairmen, a number of congressmen and others have been invited. These include Gov. Robert Bennett; James Pearson and Robert Dole, United States Senators; Dan Glickman, United States Congressman; John Crofoot, Kansas Senator; and Pascal Roniger, Kansas Representative.
Marion Kiwanis Club will sponsor a five-ring wild animal circus May 30 in two performances featuring 25 elephants under a big top.
Blaine D. Ammeter of Florence, Kansas State University senior, will student teach this spring at Council Grove High School. His assignment will be from March 20 to May 17. Ammeter is majoring in social science education.
Bob Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hett of Marion, is on tour in Texas with the Singing Quakers of Friends University.
Marion's CYO volleyball team won a regional tournament Sunday at Marion Gymnasium. Teams entered were from Marion, Tampa, El Dorado, and two teams from Newton. The victorious Marion team was comprised of Jamie Richmond, Jackie Richmond, Becky Vinduska, Debbie Vinduska, Sherri Kelly, Doug Webb, Jay Smith, Doug Heerey, Darrel Waner, Bill Turk, and Kevin Jirak. Doug Marler is team coach and Bruce Winkler is manager.
Marc Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest L. Smith of Marion, has been selected a outstanding initiate of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Kansas State University and was honored Sunday at the fraternity's annual Founder's Day banquet in Manhattan.
Airman First Class Steven D. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward O. Williams of rural Marion, is participating in "Red Flag 78-4," a Tactical Air Command training exercise conducted at Nellis AFB, Nev.
