The farm home of Tom and Gerri Hett is a total loss this Thursday morning following a fire that started during the night in the basement of their rural home. The only things left of their lifetime belongings are high school graduation portraits of their six children. The photographs were saved by their sons, Bruce and Rocky, who went into the house, staying low and close to the wall in the room where the pictures hung.
Steve Moore, president of Kan-Go, Inc., was speaker at the Monday noon meeting of Marion Kiwanis Club. He said he has been pleased with cooperation in the community since his firm located here and that he sees a bright future locally.
Kathryn Beneke, Centre High School senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Beneke of Lost Springs, has been awarded the $700 Fredrick R. Knautz scholarship by the Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society of America for two years study. Beneke plans to study nursing at either St. John's College at Winfield or North Central Area Vo-Tech in Beloit.
Those from the Pilsen-Lincolnville area attending the eighth grade class party in Salina were Jackie Nowak, Mary Vinduska, Steve Olsen, John Chizek, Jeanette Bentz, Larry Beneke, Brenda Melcher, and Kelly Jirak. They went skating at the Starlite Rink and saw the movie, "Pete's Dragon."
Solo and small group musical numbers will be presented Sunday in the Marion High School music room. Vocal solos will be performed by Colene Wiebe, Greg Boyle, Randy Just, Laurie Laubhan, Cindy Carlson, Brad Seifert, and Jerry Elmore. Instrumental selections will be performed by a brass quintet, clarinet trio, Greg Boyle on trombone, Colene Wiebe on saxophone, and Paula Vinduska on flute.
