Announcement was made this week that Marion National Bank will construct a new building at the corner of Third and Main. The new building will be larger than the present structure, taking in the area now occupied by the present bank building and also the next building which is now occupied by the Waner crafts shop.

Art work by Debbie Enos of Marion is featured in a show at Friendship Hall on the McPherson College campus. Debbie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Enos.

Dr. Darrell Riffel of Little Rock, Ark., recently was named outstanding veterinarian of 1977 by members of the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association. Riffel is the son of Mrs. Martin Riffel of Marion and the late Mr. Riffel.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hannaford of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Gayle Denise, to Michael David Thomas, son of Virginia Thomas of Wichita and David Thomas of Marion. A fall wedding is planned.

Msgr. Arthur Tonne, pastor of St. John Nepomucene Church at Pilsen, attended the golden jubilee celebration of Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, last week. Monsignor Tonne taught English and church history at the school from 1932 through 1934. He was accompanied to Ohio by his brother, Lyle, who taught mathematics at the school from 1932 to 1934, and presently owns and operates Paul Bunyan restaurants in Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tajchman of the Lost Springs area had the misfortune of losing two sows and eight small pigs when their farrowing house burned to the ground Friday morning.

Lester Griffith, Marion County agricultural agent and extension director for 18 years, will be honored Saturday evening with a retirement party and basket supper at St. Mark's Activity Center.
