A bright yellow band of forsythia bushes will blossom next spring along the east bank of Luta Creek highlighting the west edge of Central Park. The bushes were planted Thursday beginning south of the bridge and extending in a gentle curve about 150 yards along the top edge of the creek bank. The bushes are a part of a memorial to the late Dr. Ralph Melton.
The 30th anniversary of the founding of 20th Century Club was celebrated May 1 at the home of Mrs. Jack Summerville. Special honored guests during the evening were two charter members, Mrs. Summerville who was the first president of the club and Mrs. Bill Meyer.
Seven second graders will receive Holy Communion for the first time on Mother's Day at St. Mark Catholic Church. They are Jamie Keller, Misti Bina, Shane Holub, Darrin Blocklinger, Jeff Herzet, Chris Vinduska, and Jason Bina.
Jerry Winkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Winkley of Marion, received word last week from the Kansas Department of Education that he has been selected to receive the Santa Fe Scholarship, highest award of its kind presented to an FFA member in Kansas.
Among the visitors this week at Copper Shed, located at the Ern Hett home near Aulne, were Mr. and Mrs. Garlett and son of Wichita. Mrs. Garlett is known as Miss Marty of the Romper Room TV show.
New equipment in the physical therapy department of St. Luke Hospital was demonstrated Sunday to the more than 250 people who attended open house at the hospital. The Ryan Trust recently contributed $250,000 for equipment and remodeling of the hospital. A portion of the equipment in the therapy department was donated by Kan-Go, Inc., Marion-based oil company.
