Three Marion businesses received "First Dollar of Profit" awards Friday from the Marion Chamber of Commerce. The awards went to Jim and Norma Dunham of the Small Fry, Steve Widler and Brad and Jeannie Wildin of The County Seat, and Richard Harrington of Harrington Photography.

Les Byer, Marion High School art instructor, is having a one-man graduate show of ceramics July 24-Aug. 4 on the top floor of the University Art Gallery in Emporia.

Former Marion resident Everett Burkhead recently returned from the Lions International Convention in Tokyo. Now a Caldwell resident, Burkhead flew from Wichita to Tokyo June 18. Many will remember Burkhead, who has been sightless since birth, and who lived in Marion for a number of years.

E3 Shirley Bredemeier and E4 Connie Gilbert of Fort Stewart, Ga., were guests of Shirley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Junior Bredemeier from July 2 through 11.

Hope L. Koch and George R. Spain were married July 9 at the Homestead Friends Church, rural Cedar Point.

Marion Motor Center placed second in their division this season in National Baseball Congress action. Team members are Mike Waner, Tony Winter, Mike Bina, Jerry Stika, Craig Mueller, John Martinez, Scott Heidebrecht, Trent Richmond, Chris Webb, Darryl Herbel, Rod Jirak, Kerry Magathan, Dan Horsch, and Myles Zeller.

Marc L. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Smith of Marion, has been named recipient of the Harvey Yantis Memorial Scholarship at Kansas State University, Manhattan. A 1977 graduate of Marion High School, Smith is a sophomore majoring in feed science and management.

Theresa Montgomery, daughter of Mrs. M.L. Montgomery of Lincolnville, has been working in Senator Robert Dole's Washington, D.C. office during the next several weeks.
