Cottonwood Valley Young Farmers — 12 busloads to be exact — visited Marion Friday and stopped in Central Park for a picnic luncheon sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce. Margaret Ehrlich, Chamber president, said that 400 Young Farmers and 60 townspeople were served.
Don Westerhaus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Westerhaus of Marion, has been named advertising promotion supervisor for Successful Farming magazine at Des Moines, Iowa.
An out-of-town visitor to Marion's scenic Central Park left the following note attached to a tree: "To the Town of Marion — We are just tourists passing through. Such a beautiful park. We only wish the road entrance was in better condition."
St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, will mark a century of service to the community when the congregation celebrates its centennial a week from Sunday with an appropriate service. Pastor Otto Truog will be in charge of the centennial. Highlights of the day will be when former pastors take part in the service.
Kim Dykes, Brenda Smith, and Cindy Heerey are pictured watching Carol Colburn open a gift certificate presented to her by members of her junior girls softball team. Colburn has directed the team to a 16-0 record with just one game remaining in the season. The certificate was presented by the girls after they captured first place in the CVL tournament this past Sunday night by defeating Hillsboro II.
Valley United Methodist Church was the setting July 16 for the wedding of Joan Elaine Elling, daughter of Carl M. Elling Sr., Marion, and the late Mrs. Elling, and Tanner G. Stephenson III, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.G. Stephenson Jr., Elmdale.
Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Marler accompanied Mr. and Mrs. George Helmer of Newton to the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, Tenn. They attended the July 23rd evening show and also visited other places of interest.
