First place trophy in the national newspaper typography contest was received this week by the Marion County Record. The trophy is on display in the newspaper office — occupying a position of prominence reflecting the pride of the Ol' Thing in being so designated.

Attending the Thursday evening meeting of Candy Stripers in the conference room at St. Luke Hospital were Theresa Kroupa, Linda Hein, Lisa Wilson, Lisa Gough, Sandy Clark, and Karen Clark.

Leona Meisinger was honored Saturday with a surprise party to celebrate her 20 years of employment with the Marion Duckwall's store. She has been working in the Duckwall chain of stores since 1941 and in Marion since 1957.

An event described as a "non dinner theatre" will be presented Friday and Saturday at the Marion County Lake hall. It will feature a cast of Sandra Bridges, David Bryant, Janet Bryant, Jim McPheeters, David Stroud, and Sue Williams. The play being presented is "The Unicorn in the Garden" by James Thurber.

Members of the Marion Motor Center baseball team celebrated a successful season of play Thursday evening with a watermelon party in Central Park. Team members are Kathy Sandwell, Carol Colburn, Lori Schmidtberger, Denice Bina, Jandee Smith, Janice Bowers, Sandy Marler, Terri Enos, Cindy Friesen, Debbie Enos, Joni Kroupa, Theresa Kroupa, Sandy Bridges, and Gail White. Coaches were Harold Bowers and Leonard White.
