A delighted Dorothy Hayward is pictured as she receives a $1,000 check from Dave Jackson of Dave's IGA last week. She won the money in the Cash Bash Sweepstakes game. Hayward said she had won $1 in a previous grocery store game, but had never before won anything like the $1,000.

Thirty senior citizens from Marion rode the 60+ bus to Kansas City Sunday to see the league leading Royals defeat Seattle. Those making the trip were Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Razor, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Perkins, Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Hadsell, Mr. and Mrs. August Helmer, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Navrat, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klein, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Stiller, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Bernhardt, Ross Moulton, Etta Richmond, Grace Richmond, Belva Pine, Peggy Behrendt, Ella Winter, Lottie Hoffman, and Rachel Keazer.

Merle Douglas caught a 43-pound 42-inch long flathead catfish Monday below the dam in the spillway area at Marion Lake. He used worms and a 40 pound test line. It took about half an hour to land the big fish.

Terry Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith of Marion, will graduate Thursday from the U.S. Army DLIFLC language school at Presidio of Monterey, California. A member of the U.S. Army, Smith has spent the past nine months studying the Korean language. The comprehensive course is one of the most difficult of military specialty classifications.

Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cooper, Marion, proudly announce the arrival of their son, Joshua James, who was born at 4:08 a.m. Sept. 17 in Salem Hospital. He has an older brother, Jason, who is seven years old.

MHS homecoming queen for 1977 will be announced Sept. 30 at the game against Herington. Queen candidates are Lori Harris, Bev Bezdek, and Molly Ferrell.
