Don Gillett of Marion took third place in the National Hammered Dulcimer contest held last week in conjunction with the National Flat-Picking Championship at Winfield. Don was awarded a Doug Ecker dulcimer, a trophy, and $100 cash.
The Pilsen Polka Pals and many of their friends have returned from a "polka tour" of Europe. They left by Braniff jet from Wichita on Sept. 12 and returned by TWA on Sept. 20. Among those on the tour were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klenda, Mr. and Mrs. George Svitak, Lillian Benda, Irma Funk, and Jane Commerford of Marion.
Sandy Marler, bride-elect of Dale Clemmer, was guest of honor at a come and go miscellaneous shower Sunday afternoon at the home of Elora Robinson. Assisting with the hostess duties were Evelyn Anderson, Vivian Conyers, Linda Cullumber, Donna Hayen, and Joyce Smith.
Three area girls were among students at Emporia State University who competed Sept. 13 in the freshman talent show there. Cheryl Robinson sang "Everything," Catherine McGuire played the guitar and sang "Loving Arms," and a duet comprised of Brenda Gillet and Jamie Gayle Crawford of Peabody presented a improvisational act.
Donna Stovall, Marion High School junior, is pictured as she tries her hand at saddling a horse as part of the FFA Sweetheart contest last Wednesday afternoon. She was crowned FFA Sweetheart for the coming year at the MHS football game Friday night.
Airman Terri L. Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Robinson of Florence, has completed her training at Kessler AFB, Mississippi.
