Dorothy Varenhorst, PRIDE steering committee chairman, was notified Monday afternoon by Leslie Frazier of the state committee that Marion will be designated as a "Pacemaker" city. Being a pacemaker city is a coveted honor and award. Marion will be the ninth community in Kansas to be so designated. Basically it means that the town has won all eight of the PRIDE ribbons.
Women of the Stitch and Chatter Club decorated a lush green tree Monday afternoon at St. Luke Hospital. The tree was donated by the family of Ella Socolofsky. The decorations came from many people. The women have decorated a Christmas tree in the hospital for at least three years. Helping with project were LaVera Bernhardt, Janet Keazer, Ruby Schroeder, Bula Good, and Doris Hett.
Monday morning finds winter moving in. After a third of an inch or so of rain fell Sunday, the temperature has dropped to 20 degrees and we have a thin covering of snow.
JoAnn Good, foreign language instructor at Hillsboro High School, attended the annual meeting of two German teachers' organization over the Thanksgiving vacation at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco, Calif. Mrs. Good is president of the Kansas Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German.
Three students from this area are members of the Emporia State University Madrigal Singers participating in the "Olde Englishe Feaste" Saturday and Sunday at the E-State Union. They are Rosella Plenert of Marion, Cheryl Robinson of Florence, and Jayma Stotts of Hillsboro. The "feaste" includes wassail, pre-dinner entertainment, dinner and dessert of "figgy pudding."
