A second snow storm of major consequence hit Marion Countians over the past weekend, hard on the heels of the New Year storm that had left eight inches or more of the wet powdery stuff to clog roads and block streets and sidewalks. Amounts varied, and what did fall was soon drifted, but from four to six inches of additional snow fell Friday night and Saturday. Roads were blocked. Traffic came to a standstill. All major highways in the county were closed Saturday.
Bob Brookens, Marion attorney, has moved his law office to the building he has purchased at 407 East Main. The building formerly housed The Hitching Post, western wear store. The Hitching Post will make an announcement later. Brookens was formerly located in the Westerhaus law office.
Herbert E. Meier, formerly of Marion, announced his retirement last week as president of Shepler's Inc. Meier is a graduate of Marion High School and Bethany College, Lindsborg. He is the son of Jacob Meier of Marion and the late Mrs. Meier.
Second Lieutenant William R. Novak II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Novak of Lost Springs, has completed a Medical Service Corps officer basic course at the Academy of Healthy Science of the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Several Tabor College students from Marion are participating in interterm courses during January. Carol and Greg Regier, daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Regier, and Ann Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Christensen, are spending eight days in New York City.
Eloise Ison and Glenn Kerbs were united in marriage Dec. 30 in the Bethany Lutheran Church at Lindsborg. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ison of Hays. Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Kerbs of Tampa are parents of the groom.
James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion will celebrate its birthday March 3. The public is invited to share in the celebration by attending a public dance. The popular Don Kile Combo from Emporia will be the featured music.
