Anita Hoffman has been named new administrator for Marion Manor Nursing Home. A registered nurse and former county health nurse, she took over as administrator Jan. 1, replacing Barbara Longhofer.
Christopher Hett was 10 years old last Friday and he enjoyed a birthday trip to Newton. His guests were Jason Bernhardt and Andy Hett. Along with Chris' parents, Rocky and Shirley Jo Hett, they saw the movie, "The Toy." On Saturday, Chris was a guest of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dale, of Florence, for a dinner in celebration of his birthday.
The "Marionette Quartette" entertained with barbershop-style songs at a father-son banquet Sunday in Trinity Mennonite Brethren Church at Hillsboro. Members are Karen Bradshaw, baritone; Jan Eitzen, lead; Connie Fisher, bass; and Nanette Lowry, tenor. All are members of Flint Hills prospective chapter of Sweet Adelines.
Centre School Board made it official Monday night, paving the way for a referendum on the issue of whether or not to close Pilsen Elementary School at the end of the 1983 school year. A public election will be held April 5 in which registered voters in the district can decided the issue once and for all.
Fifteen exercise students from the Marion area raised $892.20 for the American Heart Association during the "Dance for Heart" marathon held in the American Legion building at Marion. Aerobic Fitness class instructor Denice Bina was coordinator of the event.
There's no hope left to save the sturdy and stalwart oak tree which has been growing alongside the foot of Elm Street most of this century. That means the tree will fall. Leta Rees asked the city to make every effort to save the tree. No other voices were heard in its defense. City commissioners will let their original decision stand.
