The first release of wild Rio Grande turkeys were released in the area last week. Sixteen birds were trapped with drop nets in the Leon area of Butler County. The birds were then transported to the release sites and released in two sites, one near Florence and one near Cedar Point. Eight birds were released at each site, consisting of five hens and three gobblers.

Gov. John Carlin will be the keynote speaker for the Kansas Young Farmers and Young Farm Wives Educational Association annual state convention Feb. 9 and 10 at Hutchinson.

Three sisters, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hett, have been named to the dean's honor roll for the semester at Wichita State University. Melanie (Mrs. Larry) Ensey, Melinda (Mrs. Kendall) Helmer, and Melissa (Mrs. Doug) Krause are juniors at WSU. Melanie and Melinda are nursing students. Melissa is studying accounting.

Diana Lynn Case, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr., and Christopher G. Costello, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Costello, were married Dec. 30 in a candlelight setting at the First Presbyterian Church.

Three scouts from Marion participated in a "Rendezvous Camp-out" in Harvey County park last Saturday and Sunday. Monte Dalke, Jeff Conyers, and Mike Jordan participated in an animal clinic, animal rehabilitation center, black powder firearms demonstration, and a whittling clinic. John Jordan, assistant scoutmaster, accompanied the group.

Brian Bowers and Ron Wineinger accompanied Greg Bowers to Topeka Monday to attend a citizenship FFA Conference. They were to visit the State House, Senator John Crofoot, Rep. Bill Novak, and Gov. John Carlin, then have lunch where Ron was to give a speech.

Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. R.T. Symes and children left Thursday to return to duty in the U.S. Navy. They had been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Symes, over the holidays. The R.T. Symes family will spend the next few years at his new duty station in Hawaii.
