Marion County has been selected as part of a regional flight path for B-52 and F-111 training exercises. The low-level flights, to be conducted from Jan. 25 through June 11, will be conducted by the Strategic Air Command of the U.S. Air Force. The flight path enters Marion County just west of Burns and runs northwest to a point about a mile west of Durham. No flights have been scheduled directly over towns.

Bob Hoch, a native of Marion, has been named publishing system manager at The Wichita Eagle Beacon. He will supervise operations of a new computer system being installed to handle news stories, editorials and classified advertising.

Sub-zero temperatures kept city crews in Marion and Florence busy through the first part of the week with reports of frozen pipes and water meters.

Three recent graduates of Emporia State University from this area have been hired for variety of positions. Rhonda Williams Heerey, Florence, has been hired as a math teacher at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita. Dan Helmer, Marion, will be an asphalt sales representative for Pester Refining Co. of El Dorado, and Kelly Groening, Hillsboro, will be an accountant for Koch Industries, Wichita.

Kathy Silhan of Pilsen, Denice Bina of Lincolnville, and Brenda Weibert of Durham attended an aerobic fitness certification clinic Friday and Saturday at the East Family YMCA in Wichita. Aerobics fitness is a vigorous conditioning program.

Thermometers at the Marion County Lake registered from 13 to 17 below zero Sunday morning and with the strong wind this would make the wind chill index some 50 degrees below zero.

Eugene Costello of Tampa was elected Dec. 14 to serve a three year term on the Marion County ASC committee. Edmund Steiner of Lincolnville was appointed as chairman of the committee and Arnold Voth of Peabody serves as vice chairman. Wesley Fenske of Lost Springs and Harry "Skip" Sieger of Marion were chosen as first and second alternates and will serve on the committee in the event that any regular members is unable to fulfill their
