Tim Newfield, an 18-year-old former Haysville resident and native of Peabody, was convicted Thursday of second degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. Marion County Attorney John Johnson predicts that "At best (for him), Tim Newfield will be an old man before he sees the light of day outside a prison cell."

Martin Tice has joined the sales staff of the Real Estate Center of Hillsboro and will represent that firm in the Marion area.

Births announced in this issue include a son, Christopher Todd to Dr. and Mrs. Greg Harp of Honolulu, Hawaii; a son, Levi Joseph, to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Reznicek of Hartford; and a daughter, Lesley-Ann Nicole to Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Glavin of Marion.

The bowling team sponsored by JoAnn's Hair Fashions leads the field in the Marion City Women's Bowling Association tournament after the completion of the first week of tournament play.

Jack Summerville surprised his wife, Peggy, Friday evening when he planned a party in celebration of the couple's 34th wedding anniversary. Invited guests included Mr. and Mrs. John L. Brose, Mr. and Mrs. W. Gerald Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Warneke, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Meyer. The group enjoyed dinner at Kingfisher's Inn.

Marion FFA'ers had lunch with Senator John Crofoot Jan. 21 during the annual FFA Leadership-Citizenship Day in Topeka. After lunch, they toured the Capitol, visited the Senate and looked in on house committee meetings
