Congressman Dan Glickman, D-Kan., announced Friday during a telephone call to the Marion County Record office that Col. Robert G, Bening, Tulsa District engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has approved bids for completion of the Marion Floodway project.

Special Groundhog Weekend will begin Thursday. Included in activities is the selection of a Groundhog Queen. Candidates are Larry Loomis, Larry Reiswig, Jim McPheeters, Jeff Brewer, Dave Stroud, Dennis Park, and Larry Lillard.

Mr. and Mrs. John Beverly Cameron of Prairie Village announce the engagement of their daughter Ann Cecelia to Terry Gerard Holt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold L. Holt of Marion. The couple will be married June 9.

Seventeen scouts participated in a Pinewood Derby Monday in the American Legion post home. Race winners who will advance to district competition include: Eric Kline, 8, first place; Jeremy Schlehuber, 9, second place, and Mike Wheeler, third place. Wheeler also won first place in the Judges' Choice category.

Jim Hett took his Sunday school class at Aulne Methodist Church to Hillsboro Sunday for a bowling party. Those who went were Tracy Hett, Kerry Sandwell, Jim and Neil Williams, Terry Olsen, Rick McClure, and Robbie Hett.

Bob Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hett, returned from a tour of Colorado Jan. 15 to 19 with the Friends University Jazz Band. Hett, a senior at Friends, plays a trap drum set in the band.
