Marion High School students Mickey Costello and Melissa Robinson served as pages in the Kansas Senate Feb. 2. Melissa is the daughter of Elora Robinson of Marion and Costello is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Costello, also of Marion. They posed for the picture with Sen. Gerald Karr and Gov. John Carlin.
Werner A. Mueller of Tampa, well known throughout Marion County as a dedicated volunteer who served the community in many ways, died Thursday on the farmstead where he was born. Death was the result of a heart attack while doing farm chores in the cold winter weather..
The annual Marion High School Queen of Courts will be crowned Friday night at the varsity match between the Warriors and Centre. Candidates for this year's honor are: Kris Kelsey, who will be escorted by Andy Edwardson; Loreen Wiens, escorted by Tom Schaffer; and Melissa Robinson, who will be escorted by Bryan Hess. Leslie Burkholder, 1981 queen, will be on hand to hand over her title. She will be escorted by Stan Williams.
Jack Applegate, former superintendent of schools at Marion, has been appointed a special agent for Farm Bureau Insurance at Newton. The Applegate moved to Newton in August.
Dr. Joseph Galichia, noted cardiologist form Wichita and Kansas Heart Association official, spoke to nearly 100 interested persons at a public meeting sponsored by four Marion women's clubs. The meeting was held at St. Luke Medical Clinic in the conference room.
The "Junior Blues" little twirlers performed Friday evening at half-time of the Centre-Chase County basketball game. Girls from Pilsen who twirled were Jennifer Nowak, Paula and Brenda Stika, Ramie Bina and Meggan Silhan.
Downtown merchants, armed with shovels, cleared a path along the sidewalks on Main Street Friday. The city's emergency snow plan went into effect twice during the past week so city work crews could clear streets before morning.
