Seaman Patrick J. Kelly completed recruit training in January at the Great Lake Naval Training Center, north of Chicago, Ill., and was honored at graduation ceremonies by being appointed review commander of his unit. Kelly now is stationed at San Francisco, Calif., where he is in hull technician training.

Eight Centre High School seniors will be among the contestants Friday night for homecoming king and queen. Candidates for queen include Jeannette Bentz, Kelly Jirak, Amy Miller, and Mary Vinduska. Larry Beneke, Scott Buxman, Steve Svoboda, and Stan Wyatt will compete for the boys' royalty honors.

Mr. and Mrs. Merle Douglas of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Melinda, to James Schroeder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Dean Schroeder of rural Marion. The couple plans to be married following the bride-elect's graduation from high school.

Kris Kelsey reigned over the Marion Warriors defeat of the Centre Cougars during the homecoming game Friday. Crown bearers were an important part of the ceremony. They were Kay Lynn Summervill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mick Summervill, and Brian Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Cox.

Four students at Marion High School have been notified they will be listed in the national publication, "Who's Who in Music." They are Jon Wiebe, Penny Burkholder, Jamie Shirley, and Rodney Just.

Dr. Caleb Abbott of Marion was one of 750 optometrists in attendance recently at the Contact Lens Society meeting in Kansas City.
