Marion will be the starting point and the conclusion of a PRIDE motor coach tour April 7 and 8. The two-day tour will included stops in Fort Scott, Pittsburg, Riverton, Baxter Springs, Independence, Sedan and Beaumont. Sponsored by Kansas Department of Economic Development and Kansas State University Extension Service, the tour has been designed to show how outstanding communities in Kansas have successfully used the statewide community improvement program, PRIDE, to enhance their local environments.
The present route of the Pilsen Road will be barricaded Friday and closed permanently, due to completion of the Marion floodway project.
The annual father-daughter Girl Scout Night will be Tuesday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. The program will be presented by those in Marion Community Arts Council's marionette workshop. Animal marionettes that will star in the show include Carlene Brunner's dog, Stephanie Summerville's duck, Laura Fischer's cat, Amy White's fawn, Jill Thole's horse, Eleanor Brunner's lamb, Mike Wheeler's peacock, Jennifer Thole's pig and Michelle Thole's deer.
A talented group of students from Marion High School represented Marion federated clubs at a district Fine Arts Day Saturday at Chapman. Winners are the following: Sherry Kelly, piano; Linda Schaffer, Julie Hett, Debbie Rittgers, Brad Seifert, Greg Boyle, Jon Wiebe, and Paul Loney, voice; Jamie Richmond, Carla Jost, Bill Turk, Anke Blattmann, Troy Bridges and John Slifer, art.
Betty Laue and Harvey Sanders were guests of honor Saturday evening at a come and go couples' shower at the Marion Country Club. Hosts for the event were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Blackman, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Heart, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pickering, Mr. and Mrs. Mick Summervill and Mr. and Mrs. John Summerville.
Mr. and Mrs. John Fenske of Lincolnville are the parents of a son Jason Charles who weighed 8 pounds 12 1/2 ounces when he was born Feb. 22.
