The attorney general of Kansas, Robert T. Stephan, will be the commencement speaker when Marion High School seniors graduate May 22, according to Martin Tice, principal.

Jeffrey Longhofer, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Longhofer of Marion, was invited to appear at the national meeting of the Society for Anthropology recently at Philadelphia, Pa. A graduate student in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Kansas, Longhofer is a graduate of Marion High School and Washburn University, Topeka.

Jim Christensen represented the Marion Chamber of Commerce in presenting Caryl Wiebe with her first dollar of profit. Wiebe assumed control of the former Steve's Dairy Palace three weeks ago. Her daughter, Doreen, will manage the business tentatively renamed Caryl's Drive-In.

Jo Marie O'Dell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mueller of the Canada community, has passed the examination to become a certified public accountant. A graduate of Marion High School, she received a bachelor of science degree in accounting at Kansas Sate University in 1978. She is employed as a staff accountant with the firm of Peat, Marwick and Mitchell at Wichita.

Marion High School will present "Oklahoma" May 10 and 11 in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Playing leading roles are Laurie Laubhan as Laurey, Bill Hoch as Curly, Janelle Bowers as Aunt Eller, Donita Makovec as Ado Annie, Chuck Gough as Will, Jay Smith as Jud, and Troy Bridges as Ali Hakim.

Lance Ringler and Jim Druse won the jackrabbit two-man tournament held Sunday at Marion County Club. Ringler and Druse shot a sub-par 67. They were followed by two teams which tied for second place with identical 70 scores — Claude Wolf and Kent Richmond and Bernie Waner and Larry Maltbie. Fourth place was another two-way tie, at 71 — Harlow Warneke and Jerry Higgins and Dutch Hauser and Chris Costello.
