Luta Creek eventually will look more like its former self: a deep placid stream that reflects its tree-line banks — and less like a stagnant pool of water. A verbal agreement between the City of Marion and representatives of the Tulsa District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would ensure that a flaw in the design of the city's $4.3 million flood protection project will be corrected.
Among those who won prizes at the various stores during the July Jamboree on Saturday were the following: At Lynn's Truck and Tractor — those who received toys due to having stars on their ice cream bars were Tony Winter, Kevin Burkholder, Craig Mueller, Janice Williams, Mrs. Roblin, Brent Hayen and Carla Annis. At Farmers and Drovers National Bank, Mable Scott won the $25 savings bond. At Jackson's many children won free Frisbees and Les Jeffrey won an additional $10 for being able to toss his in the box.
The Marion County Commission approved a request on Monday by County Park and Lake Superintendent Dale Snelling to release 100 Asian grass carp fish into Marion County Lake. The fish would be dropped along a fenced-off area north of the stone arch cove. This fish eats moss and is commonly used to resolve waterway problems where over-abundances of moss have choked shore areas.
A party was enjoyed Tuesday afternoon at St. Luke Nursing Home. Members of the Friendship Group — April Ogden, Wendy Hett, Marnie Bina, Melanie and Marie Druse, Dodie Cork and Theresa Wynn — presented a talent show consisting of baton routines and disco dancing. The past gives way, brick-by-brick, to the future. Cornejo and Sons, a Wichita wrecking company, will demolish the Marion National Bank building and the former Waner Ceramic Building. Then G&C Construction Co. of Wichita will erect a new, 4,500-foot bank on the site of the old buildings at the corner of Third and Main Street.
